Organise an OhMyGeorge trading contest at your Uni!
You’re a finance teacher, or a finance student, and you want to spice things up in class? We have created a teaching format centred around an intense and lively half-day trading contest! All the material is free to use and modify as you wish, of course!
This course aims at empowering the tech savvy new generation of investors to come with practical knowledge of how financial markets work. It is suitable for any students, but will obviously find a more natural spot within a finance/business curriculum. The contest format is designed to be entertaining and hands on, making students learn through experiments, trials and errors while tapping into their competitive inclination. Some appetence for maths may help but aren’t mandatory. While lectures are part of the format, this course isn’t a lecture per se and will be refreshing at any point of time during the semester.
II. Course aims and expected outcomes
Students will understand the basics of online trading generally speaking, with an emphasis on currency trading, including how a currency value is expressed, what it is influenced by, how to use the key features of of an online trading platform, the psychological aspects at play with trading and investing in general, how to use unbiased technical indicators in the decision process and why a trading plan is mandatory.
By the end of the course, students will be able to start trading/investing in a controlled manner, according to money management and risk management good practices.
This course doesn’t cover fundamental analysis and stock picking (i.e. value investing).
IV. Material requirements
Students will need at least one smartphone (Android or iOS) per team, an internet connection, an email account (to register on the OhMyGeorge platform), and a laptop/desktop to do some Internet research.
This course and format has been designed by Lucolimat Limited, a Hong Kong startup publisher of the mobile trading platform OhMyGeorge, which aims at providing, by design, guidance on money management and risk management to its users.
VI. Format and Procedures
The course is built around the following proposed formats:
|Preliminary reading||20 min|
|Trading session||3 hours|
|Multiple Choice Questions||15 min|
|Problem solving||5 min (masked time)|

We recommend that the MCQ, Problem Solving and Lectures be conducted during the Trading Challenge itself in order to save time, keep interest of students alive, and force them to multi-task. Trading is 80% waiting, so better make use of that time!
